Self-Hosted Coolify Platform
A self-hosted deployment platform that runs a company's web apps, APIs, and databases on its own EU servers, with load balancing, failover, and database replication.
- Role
- DevOps
- Built for
- Work and Travel Guide GmbH (WTG)
- Status
- private
- Stack
- Coolify, Docker, Traefik, PostgreSQL, Linux
The project
Set up and run Coolify as a company's own deployment platform, moving its apps from third-party cloud hosting onto self-managed servers in the EU. This keeps data in one place under the company's control, supports GDPR compliance, and keeps a simple push-to-deploy workflow.
What I built:
- Installed and configured Coolify across multiple servers, with a primary and a standby server
- Placed the servers behind a load balancer, so traffic fails over automatically if one goes down
- Set up PostgreSQL streaming replication to keep a live copy of the database on the standby server
- Organized dozens of apps into projects and environments (production and development)
- Connected GitHub for automatic deploys on push, plus manual and API-triggered deploys
- Configured domains with automatic HTTPS through Traefik, and email alerts for deployment issues
Notable features:
- Apps deploy to both servers, so either one can serve traffic on its own
- Builds with Nixpacks, without needing a Dockerfile for every app
- Full deployment history per app, with commit, source, duration, and target server
